insert code here ...experience , if any ? (Note: I am the same bro as joesbo . I had to rejoin to sign in again !:-() There has been a rise of attention paid to so-called " Homeless Sanctuary , more or less local government-sanctioned homeless camps with behavioral rules , ranging from basic tent camps to more elaborate , almost " real " places of residence/houses ones , a lot of the attention coming out of the Pacific Northwest . (I've wanted to say " New Age Homeless Camps " but perhaps that's too facetious ~ Well I just said it anyway !!!!!) The likes of Dignity Village and Quiotxe's(Sp??) have gotten attention in this century , but recently there has been more attention given to this " approved homeless camps with rules " concept . Here in Santa Cruz , CA , a local activist has been trying to garner support for one here - and pointing to the existing ones in Oregon and Washington for examples . A local alt-weekly does a cover story about him this week: www.gtweekly.com/index.php The above should be the Welcome page . If you can't find the story , go to the Cover Stories link , it's the cover of this week's issue . What do you think of the concept ? (This post should have been more detailed ~ However , you REALLY don't know how bad this machine is , or what my posting circumstanes are...) (Im uncertain whether the link is going up or not...I thought it did , then it appears it hadn't , but , now , after I clicked upon Edit it looks as if it hasn't...I'm not going to , now , try again if it hasn't , now , gone up.........

...Here's another attempt: www.gtweekly.com/index.php The story notes that many of these camps are not quite " full-fledged housing " , with electricity & heating & bathrooms , but something , for instance , the Oregon one described in the story , where there are wooden homes, but with no electricity or heating (Or , it is implied , any water source in the huts .) . The article rather plays up the concept that many non-homeless persons might be appealed to to support such encampments more on the basis of " minimum-waste/reusing-recycling living " than on exactly the concept of housing homeless as much .

...(Both of the links I placed above did appear to work after all BTW ~ I suppose the way the links manifest themselves , typography/appearance-wise , would make on - Well , me !!!!!!!:-) - think that they did not . At this point , if you follow it , I think you should go to the " Cover Stories " section .) Ye Mod Kev's recent " Housing The Homeless Blah Blah Blah " post on the parent blog touches on something that might be brought up by some as an objection to this concept ~ Namely , that it tends to offer a place for homeless people to stay that is not " the real single family dwelling...bedrooms...kitchen...driveway " , It tends to be not an example of full-fledged stand-alone housing with full standard American trappings , but various degrees of less materially-connected places to sleep ~ Often , as I said above , either encampments for tents , or even places for non-heating or electricity-connected small homes (One reason for this approach apparently being that such a set-up avoids having to get as full approval for putting the place up from the local zoning board/power commission/etc. thtn a fully-connected place would require .) as , again , the GT article linked to above describes the Oregon one as having . Look , myself , if I do , as I think I have mentioned thinking of doing elsewhere on this board , head up Pacific Northwerst-ward , the thought of perhaps setting up in a situation such of this sounds nice ~ But more as a stepping stone to something more " full-fledged " . However , too , that COULD be just that , and more attainable than hoping for full-fledged housing to come along . Likewise , the Santa Cruz projected one has recently " rebranded " (cough) itself , substituting the phrase " Village " for " Camp " (Enter " Santa Cruz Sanctuary " on Facebook and you'll find their page .) maybe I'll say more later , but I want to get this up now . Frankly , this page has tended to be not very active , and I , myself , have tended to post so much ~ while still being on the side to the stated main concept here , seeing that I'm not in San Diego - that I get worried about how " dominant " my posts may seem . Perhps I can offer s an excuse for what I guess may be seen as a tendency to not quite get the " full " versions of stories I say I'll put up , actually up , is that I tend to occupy such a large % of the posts as it is...........
